5 Ways to Prepare Your Child for Their First Day of Daycare
It is always hard when our little ones start daycare, sometimes even harder on us parents. Here are five ways to prepare your child for their first day of daycare. This will help everything run smoothly, making it easier for you and your child.
- Talk with them about their daycare.
Talk positively that will encourage them to be excited. Such as, “In five days you are going to see all of your new friends! That is so exciting! I bet you will have so much fun!” This will get them excited about going.
- Take them for a visit before their first day.
Introduce them to their new teacher and the director of the center. Let them watch the kids play, see the toys and take it all in. Ask them if they have any questions or concerns. If possible ask the teacher to let you join in an activity, this will warm him up to the other children and teacher.
- Make sure that your child has everything they need.
Especially anything that is special to them, such as a blanket, toy or stuffed animal.
- Plan to spend some time with them in the morning.
This will allow you to have a stress free morning. Let them take their time getting ready for daycare. You do not want to be rushed in the morning or be running late. You’ll want to spend some time with them at drop off. Make sure that they are comfortable before you leave.
- Be prepared when you leave for some crying, either by you or your child.
The first visit typically is more comfortable on the child then that parent. The second day is when they have a harder time because they now realize that you are leaving them there and won’t be back for a while.
Follow these five steps to make sure your child has a great first day of daycare.
